New state relations officer started July 1

Effective July 1, Jillian Carlson is the new state relations officer for Iowa State University.

Carolann Jensen, who served in that role since 2019, began a new position this month as chief operating officer for the Iowa Board of Regents.

Since 2023, Carlson has served the University of Northern Iowa as a state relations officer for the board of regents.

Prior to her regents position, Carlson worked for six years in the Iowa Senate, serving as a legislative research analyst for the education, transportation and ethics committees and as a staff member with the Senate Republican Caucus. She also served as chief of staff in the Senate President's office.

Like Jensen, Carlson earned her undergraduate degree from Iowa State. She graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in political science. She currently is pursuing a master's degree in business administration from the University of Iowa.
